NotinMyFood.org is a Consumers Union campaign about food and product safety. The site was designed using WordPress in 2010 and was originally called Buy Safe, Eat Well. It is a fully-functioning content-management system, utilizing custom post types to handle different types of content.
The previous site design is included here (left) as the project was also my work. Illustrations in the header showed a year’s worth of recalled foods and products. The imagery brought to mind supermarket shelves and the bygone era of coupon clipping. The retro feeling lightened the seriousness of the site. I handled all aspects of the design, building a WordPress theme and CSS styling.
Redesign in May 2012 brought Buy Safe, Eat Well into the family of branded sites for Consumers Union. The new site organizes the content in a much clearer way. The topics landing page displayed at right is just one example of how the site has improved. The website also allows people to take action, sign petitions and share their stories using Convio online tools for nonprofits. Their stories shape media pieces and help the organization identify people who may testify before Congress.
